Johnson Controls MAJOR HACK!!!
Johnson Controls International (JCI) reported to the SEC that it cannot report out earnings due to a cyberattack.
The cybergang Dark Angels apparently encrypted Johnson Controls VMWare, deleted backups, and stole 72 TB worth of data.
The cybergang has requested $51,000,000 to decrypt and delete all data it stole.
“Johnson Controls is one of the leaders in digital technologies and services for buildings in key industries such as healthcare, airports, hotels, and stadiums,” Lior Yaari, CEO and co-founder of Grip Security, said in an emailed statement. “If the breach expands beyond the company itself to the systems deployed by their customers, this attack could wreak havoc on huge swaths of businesses.”
As of right now, it is unclear if Johnson Controls had maintained air-gapped backups or what security software the company was running.
JCI maintains government contracts that require DHS building plans. DHS is currently investigating whether any military plans have been leaked.
Two of the company’s subsidiaries, Simplex and York, are reportedly displaying messages of a “technical outage” on customer portals and login pages.
The date of the hack was around September 25, 2023.
